Buyer & Seller Tips

The Seller assumes all responsibility for their listing placed on this site.

Interested in buying a 3D printer? Use this checklist to help you make a safe and successful purchase. 3D printers are an emerging technology, and as such are expensive items, which means that you should get as much information as possible about a 3D printer for sale before making an offer.

Before you buy a 3D printer

Read the ad description — carefully!

Read the seller’s description carefully and contact the seller with questions before you agree to buy the 3D printer. Look for the “Contact Seller” tab at the left of the listing. Genuine ads will show useful descriptive information about the actual printer for sale and not generalized manufacturer’s promotional text. Be wary of ads that just repeat information from the manufacturers website. Contact the seller to ask for a list of the items that you will get and also for any serial numbers.

PHOTOS

Be wary of ads that do not show photos of the actual item for sale, such as ads that only show stock manufacturer photos. If you are unsure, ask for photos of the printer for sale from the seller. A genuine seller will be happy to provide them. Also ask the seller for a photo of the actual printer’s model and serial number label. Most 3D printers will have a label or plaque on the chassis that shows the serial number. This serial number can usually be checked with the manufacturer.

Contact the seller

It is important to contact the seller and have your questions answered to your satisfaction before you make an offer or bid on an item. Use the “Contact Seller” tab at the left of the listing. After the initial contact to the seller using our contact form, all emails are conducted through the buyer and seller’s own email accounts.

How to buy a 3D printer

Find out what the 3D printer is worth

Before you make an offer, find out what this 3D printer is worth, taking into account of everything that is supplied in the listing such as filament and accessories. Search our site for other 3D printers of the same type to see how much they are listed for.

Estimate shipping or transportation costs

If the seller isn’t local, review how much it will cost to ship the 3D printer and agree with the seller as to who covers this cost.

local3ders is not responsible for the listings shown on this site and we do not offer or endorse any sort of secure payment services or payment protection programs. We advise against sending a payment using a service such as Western Union as the payment is untraceable. Make sure funds (such as checks) have been fully cleared before sending an item. Be wary of someone asking to overpay for an item, as this is likely to be a scam. Do not give out personal information or bank details (e.g. bank account numbers, social insurance number) over the Internet. Use your common sense. If a deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

local3ders.com is NOT the seller of any items listed and we are NOT involved in any transaction in any way. If you suspect a scam, please notify us quoting the Ad Reference ID and the URL of the Ad page.
